What the HELL was going on here? Thought I'd tuned in to some old Columbo-style detective bollocks but the main guy is an absolute ditz.
Scared of everything, aspergers all over his brain, wftttt was going on. So much fun.
Turns out this show went from about 2003 to 2009. Never even heard of it. The main guy is just a total WFT. Supposed to be on the case but taking his sweet time dithering around with assorted uncool bullshit. This aint no suave, cool, calm and collected Criminal Minds bullshit. I'm laughing my arse off a couple of times an episode. Reminiscent of the old 80's pearler "Sledgehammer". Radio rental.
Plonked down to a 6pm-11pm marathon of this last night, just lmafaq off a few times a episode.
It is the perfect confluence of incongruity, novelty and surprise.
Just love how they dont really give a fuck about the plot or the case and just let Monk go to town with his neurotic mannerisms. Last night he bumbled into a gig as a butler which was of course free reign for his anal mannerisms to drive the rest of the house staff berserk.
wiki:
The series held the record for the most-watched scripted drama episode in cable television history from 2009 through 2012.
Monk's numerous compulsive habits and phobias compound his situation, such as his fear of germs. Monk is afraid of 312 things, including milk, ladybugs, harmonicas, heights, asymmetry, enclosed spaces, foods touching on his plate, messes, and risk.
